position: $150,000 - $180,000, commensurate with
experience.POSITION SUMMARY:The Facilities Engineer IV plans
facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment
layouts, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of
facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations.
Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing
design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares
bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities
acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including
equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other
related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for
conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet
unique operating requirements and building and safety
codes.Knowledge: Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses
skills to contribute to the development of company objectives and
principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
Barriers to entry such technical committee review exist at this
level.Job Complexity: Works on significant and unique issues where
analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of
intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques,
and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Creates formal
networks involving coordination among groups.Supervision: Acts
independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special
assignments. May supervise the activities of others.Experience:
Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with
a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or PhD with
5 years experience; or equivalent experience.ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for documenting preventive maintenance actions and
schedules for facilities systems.
- Establish and manage key indicators that represent the health
of facilities systems.
- Coordinate new construction of a building and production
design.
- Examine and approve engineering and architectural drawings and
design computations for public buildings and places of employment
to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and
established standards, codes, and regulations.
- Conduct preliminary surveys and prepare schematic, preliminary,
and work drawings for the construction and maintenance of new or
remodeled structures and facilities.
- Estimate cost of projects, write contracts and specifications
for labor, materials, and equipment for construction projects, and
secure bids from contractors.
- Conduct periodic inspections of work in progress and advise
construction supervisors and contractors on interpretation of plans
and specifications.
- Inspect materials, workmanship, and architectural, mechanical,
and electrical installations for conformance to plans and
specifications.
- Evaluate and make recommendations concerning changes in
contract documents and ensure that authorized changes are
implemented, in accordance with federal, state, and local building
codes.
- Review and approve shop drawings and cost breakdowns submitted
by suppliers and contractors of construction projects.
- Consult with architects, engineers, owners, and contractors
regarding preliminary layout, construction procedures, and code
requirements that apply to building projects.
- Discuss plans, specifications, and work schedules with
contractors and resolve problems associated with projects.
- Maintain records of progress, quantities, changes, delays, and
other pertinent factors affecting construction projects.
- Conduct correspondence involving technical problems concerning
structural engineering standards and code requirements.
- Perform design computations involving determinations of
strength of various materials through the use of computers.
- Design and prepare plans of construction projects through the
use of computer-aided design systems.
- Inspect existing facilities to ascertain their condition and
prepare reports depicting the condition, deficiencies observed,
designs necessary for repairs, and estimated cost of repairs.
- Conduct health and safety surveys of structures and maintain
associated equipment.
- Maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related
to the work.

- Position requires a well-rounded technical background in all
areas of facilities operations.
- Candidate must be well organized and able to communicate
effectively and professionally with individuals within and outside
the organization.
- 12 or more years experience in HVAC preventative maintenance,
balancing, assessment, and knowledge of fabrication
techniques.
- 8 or more years experience in HVAC control systems.
- Must have the ability to manage projects.
- Must be certified in air conditioning, refrigeration, and
heating.
- Must be EPA certified for handling refrigerants.
- Plumbing/electrical knowledge and basic skills.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with supervisory personnel and co-workers.
- The ability to project a positive and customer-responsive
image.
- A high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and
confidential situations. Position continually requires poise, tact,
and diplomacy.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community and project a positive and customer-responsive
image.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with supervisory personnel and co-workers.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
