VP, Executive Distinguished Engineer - Delivery
ExperienceCapital One's Technology senior leadership is looking for
an experienced change leader as Vice President of Software
Engineering within the Delivery Experience organization. Delivery
Experience focuses on shaping the developer experience, staying
well-managed with our products and portfolios, and creating great
experiences that enable associates to deliver on Capital One's
mission. The Delivery Experience team manages & builds tools,
develops & maintains policy, and works with stakeholders at every
level to identify areas of resistance at every point along the
delivery life cycle.As an Executive Distinguished Engineer Delivery
Experience, you will lead teams focused on ensuring our tools and
best practices help engineers quickly and safely develop and deploy
high-quality software - and stay delighted in their work every day.
You'll work closely with the users of your solutions, bringing a
vision of modern delivery practices and playing a critical role in
designing and implementing best practices that will improve our
resiliency and stability. You will assess current tools and
frameworks ensuring the adoption of cutting-edge technology, not
simply because it's shiny and new, but because it's the best
overall solution. Your experience with leveraging emerging
technology will help drive our future roadmap.This is an individual
contributor role with high visibility across the organization and
requires strategic engagement with all technology leaders. This
executive role will have a high degree of influence and operate as
a deep technical expert and thought leader to accelerate adoption
of the best engineering and architecture practices and platforms.
He/she/they will be an evangelist, both internally and externally,
helping to elevate the Distinguished Engineering as a go-to
resource on given technologies and technology-enabled
capabilities.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy to build tools and services for application
service teams to operate highly reliable software systems at
scale.
- Develop a strategic vision and mobilize the company on emerging
continuous deployment areas such as Github Actions, prioritizing
high-leverage use cases, and in collaboration with key product and
business stakeholders.
- Ability to engage and inspire our large developer community,
understand the tools / technologies in use, highlight friction
points and stitch together a developer experience that elevates
enterprise productivity.
- Serve as a thought leader, not only reacting to business needs
but also gaining buy-in for the adoption of forward-leaning
solutions.
- Lead research, development and prototyping efforts to advance
the state-of-the-art in infrastructure as code patterns with a
healthy mix of projects and research ideas that can be tested in
near-term as well as fundamental advances that require long-term
focus.
- Represent Capital One at conferences, industry events and in
media appearances, promoting our capabilities, helping us develop a
strong external brand that will also help attract and retain
world-class talent.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments, be an evangelist
for automated continuous deployments and share knowledge and
expertise with colleagues across the company.
- Communicate with senior leaders and stakeholders on program
updates, roadmap and vision, and help them reimagine their
businesses.Location:McLean, VA, Richmond, VA, Plano, TX, or Remote
(with regular travel)The Person:
- Deep technical experts and thought leaders that help accelerate
adoption of the very best engineering practices, while maintaining
knowledge on industry innovations, trends and practices.
- Demonstrated track record of developing innovative solutions
and open-ended research to solve real-world problems, preferably in
technology companies, along with publications in top tier
conferences.
- Strong communication is essential in this role, especially the
ability to influence senior leadership, stakeholders, technical and
non-technical audiences, and shape company strategy to drive
results.
- Role models and mentors, helping to coach and strengthen the
technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product
community.
- Evangelists, both internally and externally, helping to elevate
the Distinguished Engineering community and establish themselves as
a go-to resource on given technologies and technology-enabled
capabilities.
- Demonstrated expertise with system domains: continuous
deployment, CDK, Terraform, Chef, AWS SDK.Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least 12 years of experience in software engineering or
solution architecture.
- At least 3 years of experience with public cloud
technologies.Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters' Degree.
- At least 20 years of experience in software engineering or
solution architecture.
- At least 7 years experience designing and building enterprise
platform solutions.
- At least 5 years experience with AWS.Capital One will consider

for this position.Compensation:The minimum and maximum full-time
annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please
note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to
perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the
amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
- Cambridge, MA: $361,100 - $412,200
- Chicago, IL: $328,400 - $374,700
- McLean, VA: $361,100 - $412,200
- New York, NY: $394,000 - $449,700
- Plano, TX: $328,400 - $374,700
- Richmond, VA: $328,400 - $374,700
- San Francisco, CA: $394,000 - $449,700Candidates hired to work
in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with
that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to
any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the
candidate's offer letter.This role is also eligible to earn
performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash
bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be
discretionary or non discretionary depending on the
